Governor Cuomo & NYPA CEO Quiniones*: STOP the Sheridan Avenue fracked gas power plant and build a renewable energy solution for the New York State Capital

SHARE Friday Update #1 July 13, 2018

Our monthly meeting will be on Thursday (July 19) at 6:30 at Citizen Action. 94 Central Ave in Albany. Hope you can join us. I’ll send out an agenda early next week.
State Legislators Support Renewables for the Plaza State legislators, led by Assemblymember Englebright and Senator Breslin sent letters to the Governor calling for renewable energy to heat and power the Empire State Plaza and other government buildings. SHARE, along with Environmental Advocates sent out a press release to announce the letter which resulted in an article in the Albany Times Union and Merton Simpson appeared on Capital Tonight.
NY Power Authority (NYPA) responded to our Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request for their research on renewable options for the Sheridan Hollow project. During NYPA’s informational sessions about the project last fall they repeatedly stated that their review of alternative energy options demonstrated that renewables were infeasible for the Sheridan Hollow project. SHARE filed a FOIL request to ask for their analysis of alternative technologies that were considered. On April 26, we received the following response to our request. “The Authority has concluded a diligent search of its records and was not able to locate any responsive records.” So…. Apparently they did no review.
NYPA has delayed the project to review renewable options. Let’s hope they take a real look this time. We have experts that are anxious to help them.

Summer Petition Campaign is underway. Please help us collect signatures on the attached petition. Print the petition, Get your friends, family and co-workers to sign, and return the petition to SHARE. We hope to deliver 5,000 signatures to the Governor in early September.
